Reflections on another year passing. It was a year full of highs and lows.
Our year began with a purchase of our new Heidelberg press. Our past owner, John Williams, helped facilitate the negotiations and purchase of the press. An exciting time for Julin and bittersweet as we mourned John’s passing a few short weeks later. John had a tremendous battle with complications from a rare form of leukemia. He was so proud of Julin and would have loved seeing the new press in action!
The additions of such a big piece of equipment requires a lot of planning! When we added an addition to our building in 2017, we planned for future expansion and laid an 8-inch cement footing to accommodate future equipment additions. It turns out 8” wasn’t quite enough! We needed an 18” concrete pad to accommodate the weight of the new press. It was business as usual while demolition of the current floor and pouring of the new floor took place. Talk about a mess!
See the images below. The new press location had to be sealed off during the concrete work so press room and bindery stayed clean. The new concrete pad was 45 x 9. The process from the concrete pad to installation took about 5 weeks!
Scroll to the end for a short time-lapse video of the installation.
The year included a few other equipment additions- a new tabber and cutting system. We also make some facility updates to our conference room, break room and new coating for the plant floor!
Kudos to our employees, this year has been one of growth and a great testament of how wonderful and dedicated our employees are.
We had weeks of electricians running new wires, installation, training, moving equipment and shelving- chaos in general! Through it all, our employees managed to keep our jobs on schedule, even if it meant adjusting their work hours to do so! It truly was a team effort.
And of course, a big thank you to all of our loyal customers! Thank you for trusting us with your printing!
All of us at Julin Printing wish you a happy and prosperous New Year!
